Just say no!

healthy-living-nutrition-exercisingIt’s good to have goals.  It’s been said that if you aim for nothing, you’ll hit it every time.  There is truth to that.  I suppose, in a twisted sort of way, there is even success in that.  After all, if you aim for nothing, and hit nothing, then you accomplished exactly what you set out to do.  In previous years, this would’ve seemed a victory for me, and I likely would’ve been content to take it.  Now I’m old and wise.

When I decided I was going to give dating another shot, I decided that I was going to have to set a few goals for myself.  After all, being divorced, I certainly brought enough “baggage” to the table, so to speak.  Because of that, I wanted to make sure I had the rest of my stuff sorted out and taken care of.

Goal one, and perhaps the most important of all the ones I set, was to take care of myself a little better.  My metabolism isn’t what it used to be.  If you need proof, as me to lift my shirt!  It would seem that I have reached a point in my life where I can no longer eat whatever I want and spend every spare moment of my life on the couch, and still look good!  This was a harsh reality for me, but I’ve slowly come to terms with it.

I took a two-fold approach to reaching the goal I set out for myself.  The first step was eating better.  I’m slowly learning how to cook, and I have, albeit with great resistance, started drinking more water than pop.  My refrigerator has come to house vegetables and fruits, two words I wouldn’t even speak in my youth.  Chips, now, are something to be drooled over from a safe distance while speedily pushing my cart past the isle in the grocery store.  It’s not been easy, but, I suppose, nothing worthwhile ever is.

The second step was exercise.  I’ve come to spend a great deal of time with my stationary bike and I’ve even lifted some weights.  It’s amazing the ripped arms you can mold for yourself with a couple of Chunky Soup cans.  Hey, I never said it was a lot of weight!

Anywho, slowly, and I do mean slowly, over the past couple of months, my hard work and sacrifice has begun to pay off.  In fact, I’ve lost nearly 20lbs.  It’s been great.  Finally, I am on my way to accomplishing my goal.  What, specifically was that goal you may ask?  Well I’ll tell you.  The day my pecs stick out further than my gut, and it doesn’t require me holding my breathing and sucking it in… then that is the day I’ll have achieved my goal.

Saggy man boobs and a gut hanging over your belt… just say no kids.  Just say no!
